1. Madonna. It may be unbelievable, but Madge is 49 today. Cut off a leg and count the rings. To think that she was a zaftig 24-year old when her first single, Everybody, was released... She's come a long way since then--and has had a big gay following ever since. As they say in the old country: cheers, love!
Here's a video of her first-ever live performance in 1982 at Danceteria in NYC.
2. David Mixner, writer, longtime activist and the keynote speaker at our Fall Dinner this year, is 61 today.
Happy Birthday, David! Thanks for everything you've done and continue to do for LGBT people everywhere.
You, too, can wish David a happy birthday by writing him at dmixner@gmail.com.

This post makes me very happy.
First of all, how much do I love that today is her birthday???
Secondly, I think it's kinda' cool that it just so happens to be Madonna's Birthday as well!
Servin' it up at Danceteria! And was that the Watusi she had conjured and invoked? Brill, just brill. What was this filmed with? A Viewmaster?
Well, cheers to Madge! Thanks for all of the cone-bras and tassels! Thanks for finally eschewing that whole "underwear on the outside" phase that, no doubt, lead to countless yeast infections. Thanks for the Jesus-kissin', pose-striking, bottle-sucking, Holiday celebrating, expressing of one's self by having a Detroit rough-and-tumble accent be devoured by a stint as Eva Peron. Thanks for the music that keeps the people together, cherishing our material girl for another half-century.
